The Heart of Alma Pacific
The Standard of Care
Growing up, my mother and grandmother made most of my clothes. To them, "handmade" wasn't a hobby; it was a standard. I remember watching my mother finish a garment, inspecting a seam or a zipper with a critical eye. If she spotted even the slightest imperfection—something lacking the sturdiness or soul she put into her work—she would sigh and say:
“This looks store-bought.”
In her world, that was the ultimate insult. It meant the item was hollow. It meant it was made for a shelf, not for a person. That lesson stayed with me: the most expensive things in a store rarely have the care or the longevity of something made by hand.
The Wanderer’s Discovery
I am not a designer by trade; I am a lover of beautiful things and a Sagittarius/wanderer at heart. It was on a girls' trip, sitting on a beach in Mexico, that the spark for Alma Pacific truly caught fire.
I watched men in wide-brimmed palm hats walk across the sand, draped in the most vibrant, breathtaking throw blankets I had ever seen. The colors took my breath away. I bought three on the spot, and that set me in motion to find out more. I wanted to understand the hands behind the vibrant threads and the poms that I had always loved.
Bridging Two Worlds
In this country, we have mastered convenience. We have air conditioning and remote-controlled garage doors, but we often lack vibrant traditions and shared artistic experiences. We don’t always express our lives through the objects we keep in our homes.
In the markets of Mexico, I found a different story. I met artisans whose work is a part of their family lineage—crafts that have been protected since before the Spanish arrived. Today’s artisans have PayPal and Instagram, but they follow the same painstaking techniques as their ancestors.
Our Mission
Alma Pacific is the result of my passion for travel and my deep appreciation for the quality of the handmade. We don’t do "fast decor." Every item is a "labor of love" sourced directly from family workshops, ensuring that the beauty and history of these crafts are honored.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
